Technology is great...

when it actually works.  As an English teacher, one of the many perks of my job is that, as part of my official job description, I also have to sponsor the school yearbook staff.  Simply enough, right?  Well, as long as I am organized and ensure that the staffers adhere to strict deadlines, all will go well... or will it?  

Today is the final deadline for the entire book, and I'm trying to go through and proof and edit the final batch of pages.  Our software is completely web-based this year, which means that the students and I can access it from any computer anywhere in the world with a high-speed internet connection.  This sounds like the ideal situation.  However, this multi-thousand dollar software doesn't always work and/or isn't always up to speed, so to speak.  Although I am currently using top-notch equipment, the program is creeping along, and it is taking me about 5 minutes to open every page, that is, if the pages open at all.  Some of the functions aren't showing up either.  So, this is fantastic.  Just wanted to share my woes...
